Thor by leftandrightdolls Thor by leftandrightdolls
Thor from the Avengers movie. Continuing my grand tradition of finishing each member of the team months apart, one doll at a time XD. The color work on his armor is one of the most ambitious things that I’ve tackled in a long time, and he used a technique for the circles that I developed when I was making C-3PO. His cape is knit and his bracers are removable.

This doll is for sale. Please see my list of premade dolls for prices and availability or my ordering info for more details. I do commissions too.

Finished Winter 2013.

Yeah, he turned out great.  Someone commissioned me to do a Loki doll so I should have photos of him in the next few weeks too.

Really great work on the little details. Given the level of detail in the original costume, you've done a really good job translating it down to an amigurumi doll :)

Thanks! His costume had a bunch of shapes and layers with all the armor and I worked hard to get them as best as I could. It helps that the picture turned out pretty well.

Thanks. Some characters' details translate into dolls better than others, and his worked especially well. I'm always glad to hear people appreciate it.

This. . . is amazing! :iconiwantitplz: amazing. . . so jealous!!! Aah. . .so cool!!! Question, did you write out a pattern before you started or did you just wing it as you went along? Either way amazing amazing job!!! I can't believe I'm not already watching you!!! Doing that right now

Thanks for the watch! Glad you like my stuff.

I don't have a specific pattern for him exactly, but most of my dolls tend to have a lot of the same parts (a foot is a foot, a hand is a hand, etc.) The color work I made up as I went, and pretty often I'd get to the end of a row just to tear it out and start again.

I get it, that makes sense, so you have the gist of a doll pattern and then just wing the details according the specific doll! Then are all your dolls OOAK or can you replicate pretty easily? Sorry for so many questions! ^^"

You're fine. Ask all the questions you want. XD

And yes, they're all one of a kind. I might remake something like the skeleton or the wheelchair someday since they're both my original designs, but I'm not planning to repeat any particular characters ever.

Haha thanks for humoring me! :)

That's really amazing! I can't believe you've made so many dolls and chose not to ever replicate! Humanoids have always seemed daunting to me, I think it's the hair that deters me. . . it seems like soO much work haha, anyways thanks so much for being awesome and answering all my questions!!

Thanks! Normally I tend to work on dolls while I watch TV and just check reference photos between episodes, but for him I had to keep the photo open the whole time to make sure everything got positioned right. Glad you appreciated it!

Oh, I can imagine. I think just trying to draw the design would be complicated, let alone trying to figure out how to translate into yarn. I forgot to ask, does he have wire in his limbs?

Nope, no wire. Everything's just stuffed with polyfil and leftover scraps of yarn.

... That's actually a good way to use up your scraps. Why have I never thought of that? :XD:
